Scotland the Brave

Met another teacher last night - David, a Scottish fella.

Top bloke. Decided to go for a beer after work. Was in the arse end of nowhere and was difficult to find anywhere.

Stumbled across a rather authentic Izakaya - Japanese pub n' grub. Did a kind of Japanese Tapas (Japas?). Ordered lots of little dishes.

Once the beer was flowing, David, who had been quite reserved up until that point let rip about SHANE, and gave a twenty minute diatribe about what was wrong with it.

Everything he said was right. This comes on top of another conversation I had with another teacher, Martin, on Friday who was also moaning.

I will stick this out as long as I can because I like Japan, but at this stage I can't see me staying here for too long.

I cannot say a lot on these issue, since I don't really know what is wrong here.

However, strange enough, I cannot help finding unique similarity between English teachers for that sort of institutions and those Japanese who work for Japanese restaurant, or any other guys on working holiday abroad.

You might like the place and want to stay there for long but you need a good future prospect to do so. My friend who is working for an English news paper in Tokyo said to me that they receive thousands of CV by English teachers who is afraid of no-way-out situations (but also said that they are not really good writers). There is certain uncertainty about moratorium years, and fear of losing chances as time goes by. I quote one of my favourite Aimee Mann song;

It's not
What you thought
When you first began it
You got
What you want
Now you can hardly stand it though,
By now you know
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up

You're sure
There's a cure
And you have finally found it
You think
One drink
Will shrink you 'til you're underground
And living down
But it's not going to stop
'Til you wise up

Prepare a list of what you need
Before you sign away the deed
'Cause it's not going to stop
'Til you wise up

No, it's not going to stop
So just...give up

And as MC Hammer once said ....

My, my, my, my music hits me so hard
Makes me say oh my Lord
Thank you for blessing me
With a mind to rhyme and two hyped feet
Feels good when you know you're down
A superbowl homeboy from the Oaktown
And I'm known as such
And this is a beat uh you can't touch

Wise words that seem highly applicable to your situation Bobby.

Like it Dave.

I've always held the words of our Lord MC Hammer in such high regard.

Only a flappy-trousered, rap twat can save me now.
